Mountains and Flamenco

After a late night at the theater we got up early to go to Montserrat, which is a mountain about 40 minutes outside of Barcelona. It was higher than we expected, luckily we brought our winter coats, so we were fairly well dressed for the weather. We first toured the monastery, which was founded in 1025 and has a world renowned boys choir. Then we went for a hike around the mountain. Unfortunately the funicular was not functioning and Belinda did not prepare, so only Matt made it to the top, while Belinda toured the art museum.

We were literally above the clouds at Montserrat.

Each spire has a name. The two in the center are the Elephant and the Sphinx. To the Right of the Sphinx are the two apes.
A relic of the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus found at the site in 880. Although this was a reproduction of the original , which was destroyed by the stinking French.

The “Old Fisherman” by Picasso.
We took the cable car down the mountain.

After the Montserrat tour, we headed to Parc Guell another Gaudi architecture area in which he created a neighborhood for one financier.

Parc Guell – 5th Gaudi. Looks like a ginger bread house.

We went to the 4D Gaudi Experience. This was obviously taken before the movie. Although Belinda’s expression of terror was apt, since there was a Dragon in the movie.

After the Gaudi 4D experience we made our way back to the hotel where we quickly changed and headed out to our Flamenco dinner show, located in a nice little village area.

Tapas for Dinner. Lots of traditional Catalan food.
Pretty flower pot arrangement at the entrance to our show.
